The Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany

British Freemasons have been in Germany for more than 50 years. Our first lodge, New Absalom Lodge was established as long ago as 30th March 1957 in Düsseldorf. This Lodge was consecrated as part of the United Grand Lodges of Germany but soon afterward “A Provincial Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany” was founded. In 1980, the current Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany (GLBFG) was created.

We are all proud to be German Masons and the GLBFG is part of the wider United Grand Lodges of Germany which has 4 other constituent Grand Lodges within it. Although we are German Masons, we are a truly International Grand Lodge and we have members from all four corners of the globe making up our ranks.

Currently, we have 16 Lodges within our Grand Lodge located all over Germany - from Hamburg in the North, Berlin in the East, Düsseldorf in the West and Munich in the South. Our main concentration of Lodges is North West Germany as a consequence of the British Forces presence in post-war Germany.

We are a small Grand Lodge within the world-wide freemasonry community and our coat of arms ties our Grand Lodge into this community .

The Seal of the Grand Land Lodge of the Freemasons Order comprising a Triangle and a Key are combined with the Triangle and Key together which also symbolise the Trowel. The Chain is displayed in three sections each exposing three links and thus symbolising the “Three times Three” common to German Freemasonry.

The EAGLE symbolises Germany,

the LION Great Britain.

The THREE CASTLES are to remind us of the original Provincial Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany.

ESTO PERPETUA means “May it last forever”.

Lodge-Events

  • GL Annual Communication on 3/4 May 2013 in Bad Rothenfelde

My mother always said to me "Bad things first, good things later!"

In Bad Rothenfelde, the bad one was that our meeting didn't take place in "our" well known Bad Iburg but in Bad Rothenfelde. The hotel was not as comfortable as we know it from the Hotel Zum Freden but the town of Bad Rothenfelde was really worth to visit. Have you seen the old fashioned salt production system which is quite interesting, just in the middle of the town? The other bad thing of this GL Annual Communication was that many Brethren have really missed a wonderful weekend!

  • Lodge Niederrhein - Ladies Night on Saturday 6 April 2013 in Holiday Inn Hotel, Ratingen

First the essence: Any one who couldn’t attend to this evening has missed a wonderful and most enjoyable evening.

Yes, there were some worries whether the party will be a success or not.
Too few responses? Too expensive? Too repetitive? Too formal?
    Nothing like!

The evening started punctually with a Champagne reception and all the attendees have been punctual.
Three big round tables were beautiful decorated and in front of each Lady, a wrapped gift. Surprise! Later!

  • A Century for Southern Star Lodge!

On 25 March 2013 Southern Star Lodge celebrated its 100TH Regular Meeting at their Lodge Rooms in Kirchenstrasse, Munich.

With a fantastic turn-out of 20 Brethren one of our Fellowcrafts was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason by our newly installed (February 2013!) Worshipful Master - Fred Dodson - in ample form - and it has to be said in an exemplary manner!.

  • To go or not to go - that was the question

It was hardly a ‘Midsummer Nights Dream’ - more ‘A Winters Tale’ - when, on a snowy day in Manchester with plenty more ‘frozen precipitation’ set to fall from the skies, to go or not to go was the question being asked before departure. However, deciding to brave the elements, five West Lancashire Masons headed off south to Shakespeare’s birthplace town of Stratford-upon-Avon to visit the Swan of Avon Lodge 2133.
